Lake Mary’s “Koda” opts for a rustic, mystical take on folk. Done with such care, the pieces appear to nearly float in the air with such stately majesty. By letting things unfurl with this natural grace, Lake Mary ensures that every detail truly shines. At times Lake Mary’s thoughtful acoustic guitar work recalls that of John Fahey’s careful studious output. Everything feels uniquely balanced for it all comes together in a gorgeous stream of consciousness sort of approach, one where texture and melody fuses to become one. Songs flow effortlessly together creating a unified coherent whole.


“Goya” opts for such a natural state of grace, opening up the album with tremendous vigor. The passion comes from the way everything neatly weaves together into a vast tapestry of sound. Moving closer to the listener “Wolf’s Creek” serves as one of the highlights with rhythms that recalling glistening flowing water. A rustic charm pours forth on the tremendous rush of “So Long Truman”. Pitch perfect, “Wasatch” has an uncanny power to it, while the sound rises and falls with energy. Quite meditative, “Wasatch” serves as the heart of it all. Spacious to its core “Dog Days” has a playfulness that resides throughout its DNA. A sort of nighttime energy permeates the entirety of “Junglessa”. Bringing all of it to a thoughtful conclusion is “…And Further West”.


With “Koda” Lake Mary prove to be true masters of their craft, sculpting a pastoral realm one that feels so vibrant and alive.

"Lo stile di Prymek è chiaramente legato alle radici della musica americana, un fingerpicking tra roots-music e primitivismo che ha John Fahey come padre tutelare.
Il nuovo “Koda” è soprattutto una raccolta di collaborazioni sparse dal 2012 ad oggi, tra le più fruttuose di un chitarrista da sempre affascinato dai paesaggi naturali della sua regione, in particolare i laghi e i fiumi delle Montagne Rocciose. Una musica che diventa colonna sonora della vita tradizionale perduta, inno alle radici autentiche, descrizione di un paesaggio sonoro reale e non artefatto dalla tecnologia (dalle citazioni di brani tradizionali fino all’abbaiare dei cani in “So Long Truman”).

Ne nascono torrenziali escalation sonore nei brani a due o tre chitarre, tanto ricche di note da far venire alla mente la continuous music di Lubomyr Melnyk, stavolta per chitarre. Questa è l’impressione delle stratificazioni di “Wolf’s Creek” (tre chitarre) e soprattutto di “So Long Truman” (due chitarre), brani che secondo dopo secondo riempiono ogni vuoto per trasformarsi in intensi e dinamici inni al primitivismo americano.
“Goya” è un altro punto di forza dove tecnica e un drone-folk ripetuto incessantemente si intercalano a un canto senza parole comprensibili, dove la voce diventa mero strumento sonoro capace di farci addentrare in paesaggi rustici e bucolici.
Quando Prymech rinuncia alle collaborazioni - “Meanwhile” e “Wasatch” - rallenta i ritmi alla ricerca di toni più pacati e riflessivi, con momenti che evidenziano una tecnica debitrice dei grandi chitarristi della tradizione americana legata ai canoni classici del fingerpicking. “Dog Days” suona malinconica al limite del blues rurale del Mississippi, mentre "Junglessa" dà l'idea di essere registrata in piena notte in un bosco (il canto dei grilli in sottofondo).

Il flusso sonoro del progetto Lake Mary scorre senza momenti deboli, suonando come tradizionale ma allo stesso tempo capace di rinnovarsi con alcuni elementi (le registrazioni ambientali, la voce "strumento", la dinamicità e la ripetizione di pattern di chitarra) che fanno sperare per una carriera di primo piano per il chitarrista statunitense."
